Southwest States CAP Report

On June 3, 2022 Southwest States CAP meeting took place in New Orleans, LA at the Astor Crowne Plaza. Delegates from Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana, New Mexico, and Arkansas were in attendance.

Special guest speaker Nicholas Felton, Political Director Louisiana AFL-CIO spoke on the importance of labor having a voice in our communities. Our role in holding elected leaders accountable and the influence we have on candidates. Mr. Felton informed us about the ways unions are under attack.

The meeting also included a presentation on “Why women should be involved in politics” by Pauline Mims - Women’s Committee Chair Local 276, President region 8 Women’s advisory council for Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana, and Arkansas. President for Texas state CLUW. Brother Jimmy Mack SWSCAP Financial Secretary, Local 276 Education Committee, Local 276 Vice President- provided a presentation on “Importance of VCAP” why our vote matters, why employers engage in politics, and why we are active in politics.
